Biography

Dr. Alexander Lietz is a dedicated Infectious Disease Physician with a deep-rooted passion for addressing complex and varied medical challenges. Specializing in infectious diseases, Dr. Lietz thrives on the engagement and intellectual stimulation that this specialty offers, allowing him to make a meaningful impact on his patients' lives.

A native of Southern Illinois and a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University (SIU), Dr. Lietz completed his undergraduate studies locally before pursuing further medical training in West Virginia and Arizona. Returning to SIH represents a homecoming for Dr. Lietz, providing him the opportunity to care for his community and be closer to family.

Dr. Lietz's approach to patient care centers on education, ensuring that his patients fully understand their infections and the proposed treatment plans. His current goals include contributing to antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and remaining actively involved in medical education through the local medical school.

Outside of his professional role, Dr. Lietz enjoys the region's diverse geography, taking advantage of the abundant opportunities for rock climbing, hiking, and biking. He finds great satisfaction in reconnecting with the Southern Illinois community and contributing to the well-being of those he serves.
