SIH Cancer Institute

A cancer diagnosis is a life changing moment. Patients may feel lost, but at the SIH Cancer Institute, they are never alone. Created to be a place of healing and built by community support 10 years ago, the SIH Cancer Institute continues to bring state-of-the-art cancer care to patients in the community.

All services are housed under one roof, giving patients the opportunity to have appointments and treatment during the same visit. As the first dedicated cancer center in Southern Illinois, the SIH Cancer Institute provides many services including medical and surgical oncology, radiation and infusion treatments, laboratory and pharmaceutical services, palliative care, rehabilitation, financial navigation, oncological dietary assistance and even more.

Announced in 2010, construction began on the 43,500 square foot facility in October 2013. When doors opened on March 2nd, 2015, over 100 patients were seen each day.

However, the need for dedicated cancer care continued to grow. Construction began on a 20,000 square foot expansion in May 2020 to add the region’s first USP800 pharmacy, an on-site blood bank, infusion spaces, laboratory capacity, radiation equipment, waiting areas, patient rooms and accessible parking spots.

Today, the SIH Cancer Institute sees over 300 patients each day, three times more than 2015. This facility and its dedicated staff ensure patients do not need to travel out-of-state for crucial treatment. Keeping patients close to home allows them to focus on their care plan and healing journey.
