You don’t have to travel far from home to get the diagnostic testing or imaging you need.
SIH Brain & Spine Institute providers perform intricate, complex procedures with modern-day imaging and diagnostic tools, such as the 3T MRI and Brainlab™ technology. These are typically available only in urban or academic centers. You can be assured that we offer a variety of neurodiagnostic testing for the treatment and detection of stroke, epilepsy, tumors, spinal disorders and more.
Here’s a look at some of the testing we offer:
3T MRI
The region’s first and only 3T MRI is now available at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. 3T MRI is the most powerful magnet clinically available and offers crisp, high-quality images for a more confident diagnosis. The new MRI also afford more space, to make the experience more comfortable and less confining for patients.
Brainlab
Brainlab at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale uses image-guided surgery technology for less invasive and more accurate brain and spine surgery. With digital patient data uploaded to our equipment, surgeons can identify their approach before making an incision. Brainlab neuronavigation tracks surgical instruments in real-time, along with displaying their position in relation to the patient data. Surgeons are guided through procedures, thus minimizing damage to healthy structures.
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
This is a non-invasive test that identifies electrical activity in your brain by using small, metal discs (electrodes) attached to your scalp. We offer EEG testing at all three SIH hospital facilities for out-patients, in-patients and in surgery for intraoperative monitoring. An EEG may help diagnose epilepsy, migraine headaches, strokes and spinal stenosis.
Carotid ultrasound
The carotid ultrasound is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves to measure the flow of blood through the large carotid arteries that supply blood to the brain. The ultrasound can help our neurologists to determine stroke risk and the need for preventive and therapeutic measures.
