Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP)
What is the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP)?
Providers, such as SIH, who participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers who collaborate to provide high-quality, coordinated care to people with Medicare. The goal of an MSSP participating provider is to avoid unnecessary services and to deliver the right care at the right time. If an MSSP participating provider is able to deliver high-quality care and spend health care dollars more wisely, the providers may be eligible to share in the cost savings it achieves for the Medicare program.
If your doctor is participating in a Medicare Shared Savings Program, you will be notified by letter. If you are unsure and want to verify whether your doctor is participating in an MSSP, you can ask them or their office team directly.
How will my doctor's participation in an MSSP affect me?
You will still present your red, white, and blue Medicare card when you check in for services, and Medicare will still be billed for your visit. The difference in your care will be improved coordination between providers related to your care. The goal is for you to experience better care coordination and reduced duplication of tests between providers.
Do I have a choice to be excluded from the MSSP?
Medicare will share your medical information with your doctor for the purpose of supporting high quality, coordinated medical care. You can opt out of this information sharing by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227), or 877-486-2048 for TTY users.
